I offer private acupuncture services for a wide range of conditions and diseases, drawing on over 20 years of experience as a General Medical Council (GMC) registered GP within the NHS. Click here to explore the conditions acupuncture can treat.
The first session is a comprehensive one-hour initial assessment, allowing ample time for a detailed history and examination.
You will be able to share all of your concerns, ensuring that I get a thorough understanding of your condition. Together we will agree a treatment plan and goals.
The number of sessions required varies depending on the condition; for example, some may only need a single treatment, while common issues like persistent muscle pain typically require 6-8 weekly sessions. However, there is no obligation to commit to a set number of treatments.
If, during the assessment, urgent medical attention or NHS-provided services are necessary, I will provide immediate advice and communicate with your GP or hospital specialists if required.
Honest feedback is always provided. If I don’t think acupuncture will help you, I’ll tell you straight.
Electroacupuncture
Electroacupuncture is available, utilizing a small electrical charge to enhance the effects of traditional acupuncture, particularly for chronic (long lasting) conditions. The electrical charge is minimal, less than 20mA, and has been shown to significantly aid in treatment. Most people tolerate it very well. There is no additional cost for this service.
Private Prescriptions
As a registered doctor I can issue private prescriptions if the need arises. This, for instance, might be for agents which complement the treatment of pain. If you have never had a private prescription before there is no mystery to it – I simply give you a hand written note to take to any pharmacy and you obtain it from them, just like you would an NHS prescription, except the cost of the private prescription is set by the pharmacist and based on the retail cost of the medication plus their fee for dispensing it. Typically a private prescription might cost around the same as an NHS prescription or less. I don’t currently charge for issuing a private prescription.
Location
I currently run the acupuncture clinic from my home in the quiet village of Notton, which is halfway between Wakefield and Barnsley, just off the A61. Parking is available. Please note that access involves a sloped driveway, but I can help you to and from your car. If you are unable to travel due to mobility limitations, a mobile acupuncture service is available. A portable couch can be set up in your front room. There is a small additional charge for home visits (£5).
